It surprised me that the guidelines included becoming involved with minority individuals in informal contexts to gain a multidimensional perspective. Although I understand the reasoning behind this recommendation, I was not aware that professional guidelines could touch upon counselors’ personal life. It also strikes me as somewhat ethically questionable to seek out friends from minority backgrounds with the aim of professional development.
