Perhaps this often happens in our childhood, when we do not have enough strength to resist the authority of our parents. Based on what Fromm says, this may be a rational authority since parents want only the best for their child. However, with growing up, there comes a moment when you begin to have a particular awareness, your own desires begin to appear, but there is no way to resist parents. The same thing happened to me when I continued to go in for sports, although it was a waste of time in reality. However, at that moment, you, as a child, try to follow what your parents think will be the best for you. Thus, their thoughts become a priority and determine further actions.
