Unfortunately, even though historical periods involving slavery and genocide are in the past, racism is still present in the United States. It continues to shape today’s society and prevents equal access to opportunities for people of color. Structural racism refers to the way racial inequalities are embedded in society and institutions. It results in socio-economic gaps and involves disparities in education, healthcare, employment, housing, and income. More effort is needed to eliminate the adverse impact of race-based differentiation on people.
