Attempting at drawing connections between several events that occur in succession is always fraught with threats to logical correctness. Known as the post hoc or faulty causality argument, the type of claim exemplified above suggests that a connection exists between two irrelevant phenomena. The fact that cancer became a number one death cause in the U.S. does not necessarily correlate with the production of cola drinks. There may be other factors that may have aggravated the situation with cancer, or cancer may have been more difficult to diagnose in the past, and the cases of cancer-induced death may not have been registered as such.
