Lasswell’s theory of communication provides a significant model that includes sender, message, medium, receiver, and feedback, accommodating linear modes of communication due to fundamental concern with unidirectional processes within the communication. Noteworthy, Lasswell’s communication model has accommodated significant criticism on real-world applications to comprehensively define a model of complete communication. Specifically, a major lacking concept in Lasswell’s model of communication is lacking feedback and non-articulation on barriers of communication such as noise.
Admittedly, a communication model that ignores feedback is incomplete communication because feedback is a vital element of a communication model, creating a significant interaction and relationship between sender and receiver for a mutual understanding and continuous process in communication. Similarly, Lasswell’s communication model is the liner and unidirectional communication theory that ignores barriers to communication, such as physical noise, among others. Thus, Lasswell’s communication model lacks acknowledgment of feedback and barriers to communication, hence underpinning criticism.
