As the system of enslavement had already existed before the Europeans’ arrival, one could also mention Muslim and Hindu merchants, along with those from the New World, among the prominent participants in the African slave trade. Moreover, African elites also had their networks of people’s enslavement. Some factors that led to the exploitation of Africa included the shortage of labor, the struggle for the colonies, and the desire to control markets, raw materials, and natural resources.
