Technological literacy addresses the ability to use digital products and the know-how to navigate them effortlessly. However, the idea of technological literacy is somewhat limited and often follows the premise that to be technologically literate is enough for one to be a mere consumer of media.

On the other hand, technological fluency is the mastery of using digital resources to become creative producers rather than consumers.

Understanding this distinction is crucial because it allows teachers and instructional designers to focus on teaching students how to employ technology to influence our technology-rich future. Nourbakhsh suggests that students must be equipped by their teachers with practical skills of knowing how to use technology and navigate the deep Internet.

Knowing how to use the Internet often refers to using what is presented on the surface and consuming it with no critical thinking implied; instead, students must learn to use the high permeability of technology to their advantage.

Considering how technology invades all aspects of our society, students must witness how technology changes rapidly over time from a very young age. This way, children have to grow as conscientious members of the community who are ready to adapt and learn quickly.
