I believe that a DNP degree could help me gain and develop crucial nursing skills, including quality improvement, practice management, and patient care technology literacy. According to recent studies, “the system-wide demand for NPs with greater clinical breadth and depth is unequivocal.” The program would allow me to attain a certain level of expertise to be able to respond proactively to an unstable healthcare environment. The most crucial part of nursing practice is advanced clinical preparation. Combined with extensive administration and leadership knowledge, a DNP program could give me the necessary resources for clinical training, which I plan to use to transform and improve patient care standards and the current healthcare system overall.
In my opinion, the enhanced skills and knowledge I could be able to achieve during a DNP program would be detrimental to my being successful in providing high-quality, comprehensive care. Nursing practice standards and qualifications grow due to a larger number of emerging healthcare transformations, including patient-centred medical homes, a growing number of insured individuals, as well as a greater need for care from a large ageing population. All of these issues require nursing professionals who can provide careacross multiple healthcare sites and facilitate the patient transition from one medical institution to another. As a prospective DNP candidate, I would gladly take the opportunity to learn how to work with clinical information systems and research analysis in order to provide continuous and coordinated care to patients.
As a nurse practitioner, my goal is to provide the best care to my patients, but I would like to gain more skills to fight current healthcare issues. The need for comprehensive care is especially evident in chronic disease management. I would like to use the skills and knowledge gained during a DNP program to address the increasing burden of the opioid epidemic, which requires healthcare professionals “to treat addiction as a chronic illness.” I would like to focus on developing effective patient care and transition strategies to ensure successful treatment and recovery. I believe that the skills in research translation would help me understand addiction treatment better, and various organizational insights would give me the toolkit to improve opioid misuse treatment. The academic knowledge and practical DNP experience would allow me to create a trans-agency opioid treatment effort to stem the health crisis.
