America entered World War I to support its allies and fight against autocratic and militaristic rules. Perry et al. indicated that Britain and France were democracies that dictatorial Germany threatened. The Germans sank American ships that supplied Britain, their enemy, with weapons and other items. Thus, America had to protest and enter the war to protect its citizens and property. Woodrow Wilson believed that his country was fighting for a peaceful world where democracy thrives. Therefore, World War I turned into an ideological battle between democrats and dictators.
