Many researchers have approached the problem of pressure ulcers, but it persists in many hospitals and nursing homes. The interventions provided in the original post should create a sufficient framework for bed sores’ prevention. However, the existence of these plans and the low performance of many facilities pose a question of how effective is education and nursing intervention without consistent inspection and response to the lack of change. Many challenges in ulcer prevention stop nursing homes on their path to improvement. Understaffing, improper training, burnout, and insufficient funding contribute to an issue that cannot be targeted from one point. Thus, it is vital to consider how the understanding of these concerns may change if one focuses on small steps to systematic improvement. Nurses who are overburdened due to the lack of rest may not adequately respond to training even if it provides all the required information to prevent ulcers. Similarly, educated nurses will not prevent all cases of bedsores if they do not have the necessary equipment.
One of the suggestions presented in recent scholarship is the implementation of care bundles. According to Lavallée, Gray, Dumville, and Cullum, the problem has many aspects, and each of them required a separate solution. For example, inappropriate referrals may be overcome by improved documentation and risk assessment strategies. The lack of equipment should be challenged with an increase in funds and projects to use available resources to improve the state of the facility. Understaffing also requires financial support to increase the number of nurses and educate them accordingly. Each bundle should be specific to the organization, being developed after an investigation into problems and opportunities of the nursing home.
