Doctors’ practice is challenged by arising ethical dilemmas, especially in terms of dealing with severely ill patients, to whom healthcare providers have to lie. As mentioned by Collins, it is best to withhold some aspects of truth during treatment because telling everything as it is may prevent individuals from fighting for their life and health. Despite the ethical principle of truthfulness that guides the clinical practice, lying may often be a solution to the problem of lost morale among patients who do not have enough strength and optimism going forward. I agree with the fact that patients must be treated carefully when it comes to their mental well-being, and minimizing the impact of the situation can work. To be specific, when treating a patient diagnosed with a critical condition that is also experiencing some live-related challenges, a doctor should tell the truth to friends and family while limiting the patient’s access to all health-related information.
