History indicates the high importance of culture within the communication performed by people. The impact of culture on communication is immense due to the differences in every individual’s experience and background that contribute to their development as a person.
The term cultural awareness could be interchanged with cultural sensitivity and cultural competence as all represent a continuum that contributes to the facilitation of a safe cross-cultural environment.
It is essential to note that countercultures may intentionally challenge wider society by establishing their own set of laws and conventions to live by, and in some cases, even forming communities that exist outside of greater society. Although countercultures are usually perceived as negative or dangerous entities, it is not always the case.
Despite the fact that race has no genetic foundation, it continues to impact human experiences. Social exclusion, discrimination, and violence against persons from specific social groups are all fueled by racial bias. Racial bias, in turn, grants social advantage to some while creating social and physical inequities for others and is often reflected in hierarchies that favor persons with white complexion over those with darker skin.
