Descartes tried to explain how the two worlds, material and non-material, interact. Parallelism is a way to solve the problem. From this perspective, the mind does not make the body move, but the act of willing is this force. At the same time, some philosophers developed a variation of parallelism known as occasionalism. According to this view, God is the connection between material and non-material things. This theory is rather inconsistent, as today. People know that movements of the body are caused by particular processes in the mind.
