In 1946, American pharmacologists Alfred G. Gilman and Louis S. Goodman discovered the chemotherapy drug for cancer, which worked effectively for the first time. It turned out that after exposure to nitrogen mustard, the soldiers had an abnormally low level of leukocytes. This discovery marked the beginning of a long research journey that led to a significant breakthrough in cancer treatment.
