Discuss management of the anterior cervical lip, including etiology, implications for labor progress, management options.

There is a belief that an urge of early pushing may cause anterior cervical lip. However, the experts in the field have counterargued this belief by saying that there is no proof of this belief to be true. One of the reasons for the anterior cervical lip is uneven pressure from the baby on the cervix (Weiss, 2019). Cervical lip is a part of the cervix that is left on one of the sides. In most cases, this is an anterior lip, resulting from the cervix caught between the pelvis of the mother and the head of a baby.

The situation when during the labor, anterior cervical lip is found, and woman is neither allowed to continue pushing nor able to stop can happen in the practice of many midwives and obstetricians. This scenario designates that the labor process has been impeded and further individual management of the procedure has to be initiated by the medical professionals.

The process of dilation occurs at the stage of early labor for nulliparous women, but also may happen to multiparous women before progressive labor (Brucker et al., 2018). Management options in this context include simple waiting for the cervix to complete dilating, the alteration of positions, reducing the lip manually.
