At first, the teachers used simple problems so that children were motivated by their success and were more inclined to this type of task. Later, they presented more complex problems, similar to those the children would have to solve during state tests.

The teachers discovered that most problems in the traditional textbook are a number and operation type. It does not follow the Five Content Standards set by NCTM, which require a larger variety of problems, including those that cover algebra, geometry, measurement, data analysis, and probability. Therefore, the teachers started creating their own problems based on relevant topics.
