A noted organization theorist once said, “Pressure for change originates in the environment. Pressure for stability originates within the organization.” Do you agree?

Companies are threatened by competitors, suppliers, rapidly changing tax laws, and social changes in the external environment. Forces that drive organizational change are technological development, international economic integration, and the maturity of markets in developed countries. For example, new technologies and new products appear, which undoubtedly intensifies competition. Therefore, many companies systematically monitor scientific and technological progress trends, which positively affects their activities. Other driving forces are changes in the socio-political system, outbreaks of religious intolerance, and the revival of nationalism. The threat of armed conflicts, a sharp reduction in imports or exports, the imposition of embargoes, and various trade sanctions designed for economic suppression also can contribute to changes.

Concerning socio-economic systems, the term stability is directly related to the stable financial condition of the enterprise, which is understood as the organization’s ability to finance its activities. Financial and economic stability is the state of a system with mechanisms to prevent and mitigate external and internal environmental factors. The company’s financial condition is a prerequisite for its vigorous activity and the guarantee of a stable position in the market. Stability is beneficial for the company, as enterprises characterized by stable financial conditions are considered fully creditworthy, being credited by banks without any collateral on any terms; thus, pressure for stability originates within the organization.
