Positive psychology is based on achieving the satisfaction of one’s needs through positive emotions and experiences. Seligman and Csikszentmihalyi believe that negative emotions are repulsive qualities and can significantly inhibit developmental progress.
In this regard, they put forward the idea of what characteristics determine the satisfaction of the moment – a positive experience. They attempted to develop the idea that the set of qualities of one moment makes it better than another, and the correlation of these characteristics determines future behavior. They also proposed a rethinking of the human qualities that make one happy: the concept of positive individual traits.
They believe that happiness can be irrespective of whether a person has any diseases or difficulties. Seligman and Csikszentmihalyi propose an approach based on positive institutions or conditions of society. The individual is a self-functioning part of society, but only a positive influence on them will bring them happiness.
