Two types of development assessments are used – formal and informal. Formal assessments are based on tests and demonstrate child development statistics. For example, they can show that indicators are higher or lower than peers’ ones. Informal ones, in turn, concentrate more on monitoring child performance. The inclusion of both types in the portfolio allows simultaneously assessing the child’s weaknesses and strengths with the help of formal assessment and informed instruction for future development using informal.
