What are the possible consequences of corruption for a nation?

Morris states that if corruption is not prevented it becomes a part of political culture penetrated all administrative branches. The case of Mexico vividly portrays that as a part of political culture, corruption is perceived as a natural phenomenon and practice accepted and approved by many officials. Government involvement in income programs for the elderly has not been a priority issue with political parties or with trade unions either before or after independence. In part, the lack of concern among the unions for improved income systems at retirement is a result of the division within the ranks of labor, but it may also be attributable to a general distrust of the motivation of both the government and employers. The result is an uncontrolled social security system and total poverty among people in need. If nothing is changed, in several years the levels of poverty will be doubled. Industrialization and mass production have had an adverse consequence on the ability of many poor to remain in, or to secure, economically rewarding employment either on a full- or part-time basis. The individuals who are most affected are local craft workers and persons engaged in cottage industries who cannot compete with products that are produced more inexpensively by cheap labor in the large manufacturing industries of the cities.
