Read James Baldwin’s “Sonny’s Blues.” Re-read the final two paragraphs of the story. What has the narrator learned? What have you, as a reader, learned?

In the last paragraph of the text, the narrator understands what the music Sonny performs means to him. The author writes that Sonny played beautifully, without a trace of suffering, with fervor. The narrator realizes what his brother had to go through and what else waits for him in the future. In addition, he remembers his family, mother, father, and deceased daughter, and he realizes that when the music ends, they will return to the terrible world in which they live.

The work teaches the reader that it is easy to succumb to the desire to change the world and choose the wrong path. Nevertheless, the author leaves the reader hoping for something good, at least for someone. The text, though small, has absorbed many complex, heartbreaking topics that everyone should think about and change their lives. Life passes quickly, and therefore, it is worth realizing whether it is going the way we want or whether it is worth changing something and making it better.
