If you were the President of a large research-oriented medical school, would you want your Board of Directors to invest in cigarette company stocks? Why or why not?

Selecting the possible options for investment, it is possible to consider several important factors, including the current laws and ethical principles. Laws regulate the work of the business world, they are enforceable, and it is obligatory to follow them. Ethical rules do not have the same power as legislation, and it is a personal choice of an investor; however, their disregard might damage the image of a particular firm.

It means that choosing among the available investment projects, it is critical to consider the legal framework and the code of ethics peculiar to a company. From this perspective, it would be unethical for a medical school to sponsor a cigarette company as it damages people’s health. In such a way, it would be a wrong decision as the school’s image would suffer.
