How does this Old Testament narrative (Elijah and the Widow at Zarephath) fit within the metanarrative of the Bible? State what type of story you believe this to be (creation, fall, redemption, or new creation) and explain why you believe this to be so.

The Old Testament narrative about the prophet Elijah is part of the redemption narrative. At the beginning of the first story about Elijah, God sent a drought to Ahab’s land for his sins. However, stories about Elijah are also forerunners of stories of the new creation, as God asks Elijah to help keep faith in God among people. The preservation of the faith must be carried out before the coming of Jesus Christ and the prophets who will announce his coming, although this is not said directly.

Interestingly, in the following stories about Elijah, the prophet learns that God saved from Ahab (Ahab killed the prophets and believers) 7000 people who did not lose their faith. In Elijah’s parables, the prophet showed obedience to God, trust in God, and humility before God, although he faced many temptations. At the end of his earthly journey, Elijah was taken to heaven by a fiery whirlwind when he rode in a chariot with Elisha, who took upon himself the responsibility of a man who would protect the word of God after Elijah had gone.
