Evaluate the extent to which Deutsche PostWorldNet (DPWN) has followed a differentiation strategy.

Many postal operators like the DPWN Company regard the invention of new technology as a driving force to its business growth considering the changing business environments. Among the technologies we find that the postal organisations in Europe consider the information and communication technology, the best example that has been used and is still in use particularly by the DPWN is that of tracking and tracing which is believed to be improving the speed and quality and delivery of the postal products by the DPWN, studies indicate that most companies including the DPWN have developed sorting centres that are regarded to be of high technology. This ICT technology has led to an improvement in the quality production and delivery of the goods on time, the best example here is the computerised mass mailings that has led to the invention of other services like the tracking and tracing and this has made many postal companies be focused on the needs of their consumers. Since all transactions carried out through ICT is computerized and is only accessed through the computer, it promotes the automation of all operations and the automation come with all sorts of benefits including security, improved authorization features, direct checks and minimize errors and omissions.

Research indicates that differentiation only comes up as a result of a company’s aptitude to ensure that its consumers are provided with information regarding the delivery of the products they are in need of, this has actually seen the company succeed in controlling the delivery of its products and services. This shows that DPWN normally considers time as a leading factor in its business operation, thus it has formed a group with companies that are ranked to be top companies dealing with technology globally, this group is normally referred to as the DHL Innovation Initiative whose aim is to come up with logistical solutions that are found to be helping DPWN to increase its products of goods and services, this is also found to be giving the company a competitive differentiation.

Therefore, DPWN being a market leader in its operations we find that it has developed a differentiation strategy which actually entails the utilisation of information technology through which the company has been able to bring an RFID as a temperature monitoring exposition which has enabled the company’s transparency towards its consumers. Research indicates that in this existing TIM group IBM being one of the companies in the group, it is given the mandate to come up with a technical solution that will help the company succeed in its consignment activities with the RFID. In this case, we find that IBM used its sensor and actuator which enabled the company to come up with an architectural design regarding the technological solution provided.

Through its innovation of information technology solutions the RFID system has been able to check and make reports regarding the conditions of the consignment at its supply checkpoints, this indicates that DPWN has been able to detect any delivery problem and stop the shipment of the product even before it gets to the airport, actually this technology has reduced the impact of delivery problems towards its consumers. This technology has enabled the DPWN Company to improve the satisfaction of its consumers; it has also improved the network delivery coordination of the products within the company and also this technology is regarded as the major competitive differentiation strategy that has enabled the company to meet its competitive advantage over its rivals thus sustaining a momentous income source.
