Computers have led to the introduction of the internet, and this has enabled people to communicate efficiently. However, social sites have limited the physical interaction of people because they do not see the need to visit others, yet they can communicate through the internet. Human relations like family ties have disintegrated because people are not interested in traveling to their homes. Secondly, the internet has many fraudsters that use the information of other people to steal from them. There is no adequate security regarding internet use because cybercriminals steal money from users that do not protect their online accounts from unauthorized access. Lastly, computer games and social networks have been misused, and children waste a lot of their study time playing online games. Employees spend most of their time chatting with colleagues or family members and forget their work. Social sites expose children to pornography, drugs, violence, and vulgar language, and this affects their growth and development.
Software developers should establish ways of ensuring children are not exposed to adult content by requiring users to verify their ages through complicated procedures. Security measures should be developed to ensure phone and biometric verifications are required before users sign into their online accounts. Moreover, people should avoid replacing physical interactions with chat rooms. They should make regular visits to see their parents, siblings, or friends strengthen their relations.
However, the solutions above have not been enforced because most internet users do not like long verification procedures before signing into their online accounts. In addition, people have a lot of work, and they cannot afford to visit their friends and relatives; therefore, they resort to chatting with them to save time and travel costs. Lastly, most people are computer illiterate and do not know how to secure their online accounts. Some people forget to sign out after using social sites, while others misplace their passwords and usernames.
