The pay structure in the previous workstation was known as the individual pay rates, also referred to as spot rates or salaries spot. The structure enables a company to offer individual payments on hourly or weekly pay rates or yearly to every person within the organization. It is often easy and accurate when estimating employee value. Despite this merit, it is challenging to involve employees, and it also lacks the formal structure for pay progression. Even if mechanisms are put in place to improve the structure, especially where higher spot rates are involved based on the market rates or inflation, the approach makes the employees dissatisfied and demotivated.

All the employees in the organization were less satisfied with the pay structure than other staff members who were paid using a different pay system. This triggered a mass exodus of employees, while those who chose to stay continued to remain unhappy. The structure makes employees feel unrewarded for their efforts since they are underpaid. Moreover, all colleagues lacked a motivational factor, which made the workers perform dismally, thus affecting the different departments within the lower ranks of the company.

One of the recommendations to improve employee satisfaction is to use the system only to pay low-skilled employees since the rate of jobs is well established in the market. This will make the employees accept the payment since it will be considered a wage within the market range. Alternatively, it should be used for senior positions to attract and retain the few individuals to perform specific roles within the company.
