The Western and the Eastern models vary, which means that people may perceive human existence differently based on their cultural heritage. The primary difference that can be outlined is the orientation of the self. In the Eastern model, the self is oriented outwards, which means that the purpose of human existence within the model is to serve others. In the Western model, on the contrary, the self is directed inwards. From this perspective, human existence aims at ensuring a joyful life for oneself and not others. These findings reveal that when individuals analyze human existence from the perspectives of the two models, they can find that its purposes in the Eastern world are aligned with the goals of society, while in the Western world, human existence is not related to the lives of others.
