Analyze the reasons why Americans on West Coast pushed the federal government to remove Japanese Americans from the population during WWII. What was the real motivation for it? Describe two ways this situation could have been handled differently, possibly with a better outcome for the Japanese Americans and more in line with the idea of “justice for all.” Considering what you have learned about the fear on the West Coast, who do you think made the camouflage netting used to cover this facility?

Americans on West Coast pushed the government to remove Japanese Americans due to the circumstances of the war. The attack on Pearl Harbor brought about the fear of national security. It made the Japanese Americans appear as a security risk which got them removed. The Americans saw them as a threat. There was also worry that the Japanese ancestry citizens would act as spies for the Japanese government. It is well known how governments value their privacy.

America was, therefore, in fear of having its plans and missions communicated to the Japanese government by the Japanese Americans. This, however, was not proven to be true but was taken as a cautionary measure of their security. The real motivation behind it was racial bitterness. Having the Japanese on American land was a bitter pill to swallow for the Americans. The growth in their numbers also seemed to be a threat to the Americans.

The situation could have been properly handled better by ensuring that the Japanese Americans had more human dignity. The internment camps were not favorable conditions according to their large number. Therefore, they would have properly constructed more housing to accommodate them in a justified way. In addition, justice for all demands equals treatment for all humans. The Japanese Americans are of a different ancestry does not mean that they should be treated differently due to race.

The American government would have investigated further into everyone before making a general assumption and having them in the camps. The display of racism could not be brought into the picture as it is demeaning. Rather, documented immigration back to Japan would have been a better way to handle the situation. It would have made justice to both the Japanese Americans and the Japanese government despite being rivals.

I think the military made the camouflage meeting to cover the facility. They were working as directed by the US government so that faults of the government could not be directly seen.
