Of the six ways of responding, the most effective in this case I can think of is apologizing and accepting the Mexican side’s conditions. This is the best solution for several reasons. First, the U.S. side is unlikely to change the Mexican side’s mind in this area because gender stereotypes are too strong and have formed over the years. In other words, it is already a psychological barrier that is not easy to break. Second, it will avoid conflict, which will lead to negative consequences, both emotional and economic. That is, the relationship with the Mexican side will be spoiled, and the possible deal will not be sealed either.

We would have discussed the situation with the woman-employee and proposed conditions that would compensate for such discriminatory consequences. In addition, the woman is a professional and understands that we came to a certain country with a certain gender situation, so I am sure she would have understood the situation. It is important to note that the woman would not have been fired or cut from the project.

My choice would lead to two consequences: First, the team would avoid conflict and smoothen the attitude of the Mexican side. This will allow us to get the deal we want without creating a mishap. Second, our side will have the moral and ethical right to put its own terms against those of others in order to achieve maximum benefit.

In the future, the cultural factor of certain countries should be taken into account when making travel arrangements, not upon arrival. This would indicate both the professionalism of the staff and respect for other people’s views, as well as help to avoid complications. However, this does not mean that, in this case, we should not involve women in work. This means that women should go to business meetings in countries and with people who will not discriminate against them. In this case, the woman herself will not feel stressed and uncomfortable, and there will be no unpleasant situation.
