Why is attachment important?

Attachment is important for growing children because it helps children develop the sense of security needed for one to grow into a healthy and productive individual. Secure children ultimately develop confidence and competence because they are encouraged to learn through exploration. Children who know that they have the backing of one or both parents are more likely to test the limits of their abilities by taking risks. This exploration becomes important later in life as it helps individuals develop characteristics that help them cope well with the demands of society.
