In the search for the truth, Laura Cortland tries to reveal the truth of her birth. However, during her trip to Ray Trafford, she encounters the villainous Byke, who strives to take possession of her. In the novel, there are numerous deadly scenes where the main heroes are subjected to hard checkouts.
The originality of the play lies in the railroad scene, which is considered the most dangerous one. In addition, the play is more socially appropriate for less than aristocratic circumstances; it bears the more democratic representation of American society. Further, Daly’s interpretation of the play and its spectacular events hampers the rendering of the whole atmosphere of the story; it shows the down-to-earth nature of Laura’s intentions, but instead, she confronts the resentment and reluctance of the corrupt society.
