Common stereotypes about nurses stem from the profession’s status as the lower tier of medical workers in the past. Nurses are usually seen as female, entirely subservient to physicians, and incompetent when left alone without the assistance of another professional. In addition, mass media has created the perception of nurses as highly emotional and compassionate people rather than competent workers, culminating in the stereotype of the attractive, flirty nurse.
