Mention the general structures and functions of the taste and smell senses.

Taste and smell are chemical senses; taste receptors are located in the oral cavity, and smell ones are situated in the nasal one. Taste receptor cells are organized into groups forming taste buds. Their function is to connect with the sensory neurons conducting information to the brain. Olfactory receptors, in turn, have axons connected to the brain directly and are designed to transfer information about the smell.
