Islam’s written tradition dates back well beyond Mohammed. Pagan recordings indicate the rise of Mohammed and the nature of life that was being led in the towns of Mecca before Mohammed started preaching. This tradition has brought about a strong sense of recording the life and times of Mohammed and his preaching. The word of God was clearly recorded in the traditional script as Quran. However, there was no recording or a diary of Mohammed the Prophet that could be found. Though, a number of people who lived by him recorded the events as Hadiths. These recordings could also produce proof of many incidents that happened during the time of Mohammed. Mohammed Ibn Ishaq wrote one of the earliest biographies of Mohammed. In this, he cites various incidents to reinforce the God-given prophecy and how Mohammed felt the prophecy was a troublesome burden which he has to carry forward. This writing tradition while could record most of the happenings in the place including the biography of the Prophet and other incidents in his life, also brought to fore the lacuna in the form of recordings that did not exist for obvious citations. This is the case with the Prophet’s reason for marrying multiple numbers of times or the way Shariat needs to be implemented in the world and when modifications or changes could be made; if so how. To think that Mohammed would not have pronounced these does not sound logical though recordings for the same are not present. While the Islamic tradition was more in promoting their own thoughts and actions, the Christian tradition was not only to promote their religious beliefs it was also to denounce the Muslim tradition that was getting accepted as a major contender.
