The network operating system provides several major services for guaranteeing security within a medium to a large network. The first such action available in all computer networks is user authentication. For this, the system requires creating an account with a password that would consist of a certain amount of letters and numbers. The differentiation between access to certain resources makes it more difficult for other internet users to access personal information.

This function is identified as access control, “a security technique that regulates who or what can view or use resources in a computing environment.” The other service of the network operating systems is data encryption, which means creating mixed information that requires keys for its decryption. Finally, digital certificates can guarantee that some products or users are genuine and do not contain any malicious code. Thus, the functions of the network operating system for security are user authentication, access control, data encryption, and digital certification.
