Newton’s First Law of motion, the Law of Inertia, states that a body at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. For example, if a ball is thrown in a moving train, the ball flying horizontally will move in the same direction, retaining its horizontal velocity due to inertia. Furthermore, the ball’s velocity will match the train’s velocity unless acted upon by external unbalanced forces.
