Socrates said to his jurors, “Are you not ashamed that, while you take care to acquire as much wealth as possible, with honor and glory as well, yet you take no care or thought for understanding truth, or for the best possible state of your soul?” Do you agree with this attitude? Why or why not?

By saying this phrase, Socrates means that material wealth and power are not as important as truth, wisdom, and one’s virtues. The philosopher has a case in point, but it would be wrong to argue that wealth is a synonym for evil. I think that money is a magnifying glass to one’s real self. There are many examples of rich men with a big heart who did not become greedy, like Warren Buffet or Elon Musk. They were not affected by money because their businesses were built on a greater cause. That said, Socrates addressed this phrase to a different kind of person, so in his case, such an attitude is justified. I agree with it completely, and I believe that every person should always nourish their soul. If they allow money to become the center of their world, they might end up unhappy and ignorant.
