Satan digresses about his experiences and claims that the more he sees pleasures around him, the more he suffers. Therefore, he finds consolation in destroying and wants to break everything with Satan’s powers. Satan also resents the gifts that God provided the human with and rebels about his “beast” essence. Then, he decides that the revenge would be “sweet” for the human.
Satan is angry at God because the Creator gave a human “magnificent this world” for a proper living. His feelings towards humanity are disgusting, and Satan is angry that humans can multiple and enjoy living in a flourishing world, and he was turned into an evil creature. Moreover, Satan is in conflict with Christ and, therefore, with Christianity. It proves that God can no more take care, love him, and equip him with all gifts of the Earth. He feels “nor hope to be myself less miserable” than the entire humanity. In his new state, he feels anxious and finds consolation only in destruction. Therefore, Satan’s plans for humanity are to destroy and get revenge.
The relations between God and Satan are complicated throughout Paradise Lost. According to the story, Satan used to be an angel who fell later. Being in the angel’s guise, Satan was proud of it and wanted to be higher in his position; he wanted to be “one step higher.” Because he abused the authority that God gave him, Satan became a fallen angel and was turned into a villain. Satan’s attempt to raise himself became a crucial mistake and led to his uncontrollable evil deeds.
Therefore, his relationships with the Creator worsened; Satan does not understand why God provides humanity, and “malice” resulted in God’s seeing Satan as a villain. On the contrary, God gives an opportunity to Adam to multiple and make use of the endowments given to him. Concerning the Creator’s duty, Paradise Lost suggests a strong connection between the parent and his offspring. The idea is that the Creator should be responsible and loving to his children like God loves all his creatures.
