Jacobson begins the workshops by asking how a parent raised them as a child to explain to the participants that their experience influences their student teaching style. When choosing a particular model of behavior, many people do not think about the reasons for such a choice. However, this is due to the foundations of behavior that were laid down in childhood. Also, the style of communication is influenced by the level of income in the family, sexual orientation, intrafamily relations, the presence of a father figure, and many other essential circumstances. Therefore, Jacobson invites the seminar participants to reflect on this topic.
This exercise aims to find similar teaching and discipline strategies applied to the teachers themselves when they were children. Jacobson, however, is not convinced that childhood experiences can explain every action or every kind of behavior. Nevertheless, the existence of a specific relationship between these two phenomena cannot be denied. Therefore, the approach of the researcher in her seminars should be considered reasonable. Such a bright start will immediately force the participants to pay attention to this critical aspect and adjust their teaching methods.
