The Electoral College was made to elect the president through the legislature rather than citizen votes. In one way, the Electoral College has protected the people and, in another, denied them their right to vote for president. The Electoral College gives relevance to all states, thus promoting national politics. This election scheme makes it easy for presidential candidates to carry out their campaigns, and its process gives actual results.

This electoral scheme makes the two-party state stronger, limiting individuals with different opinions on leadership. The majority of the people feel their votes are not regarded; thus, few opt to vote in general elections. Al Gore in 2000 won the majority of votes but lost the electoral votes lead an uprise in the legitimacy of the Electoral College. Abolishing the Electoral College will violate American democracy because; it keeps power in the people’s best interest.
