Most stock exchanges in the United States currently belong to one of two entities: Intercontinental Exchange, which owns the New York Stock Exchange, and the NASDAQ Foundation, with its eponymous structure. The NYSE is the world’s largest stock exchange, and NASDAQ is second on the list. Both are similar in that their primary purpose is to help people conduct trading by enabling such operations and updating visitors with accurate real-time information. They are also located close to each other, with one being on Wall Street and the other’s office located in the Times Square of New York.

However, there are some differences, which are mostly focused on the fact that NASDAQ is newer and more technology-oriented. NYSE focuses on established firms and has a broad scope, and NASDAQ has much volatile technological stock, attracted by its lower cost, and provides an extensive electronic suite of tools. Trading in the first venue relies on the help of human specialists and is automated in the second one. I have chosen to investigate the Arch Capital Group, which is represented on NYSE, and the Microsoft Corporation, which has stocks trading on NASDAQ.
