The dilemma that Trevor faced in the described scenario, while admittedly hilarious, in fact, represents a curious ethical issue. On the one hand, what Trevor did was clearly wrong; on the other hand, ignoring the favorable circumstances and confessing when the rest of the family had already introduced a reasonable explanation would have been a rather silly step to take, especially given the punishment. Therefore, if I was in Trevor’s situation, I would not have told the truth, either, especially at that age, even if hiding was not a threat.

However, Trevor not explaining what actually happened and allowing his mother and the rest of the family members to believe that it was the demon who left the feces in the dustbin was an example of lying. Though lying is primarily known as telling something that is not true, it can also take other forms. Concealing the truth or a part of it is one example of lying. Therefore, the described situation did represent a case of lying, even though an admittedly innocuous one.
