Externalities are the impacts of a business or economic decision activity that causes external costs or external benefits on another party who is not involved directly in the decision.

Negative externalities are related to the environmental consequences of production and use. Some examples of negative externalities include climate change is due to greenhouse gas emissions from burning oil, gas, and coal, water pollution by industries that add poisons to the water, which harm plants, animals, and humans. The consumption of alcohol by a person leads to driving accidents that may which injure or kill pedestrians and other drivers.

Positive externalities are external or beneficial outcomes of production. Some examples are an individual planting of trees that may be beneficial to others living in the area and also makes the environment beautiful.
