It is apparent that health care consumes a notable percentage of GDP in the US. Therefore, it might be leaving other significant areas underfunded, which may be true, for example, for a variety of social support programs. The funding of the latter in the US does not increase very steadily; in general, the American social support appears to be relatively underfunded when compared to those of other developed countries. Therefore, if the US healthcare expenditures are excessive, this fact is detrimental for the country.
