Ethics plays an important role in supply chain management. Nolan suggests that its relevance is at par with the effects of consumer behavior and technology growth in procurement. In the UAE, Sharia law influences different aspects of corporate governance, including procurement functions. Nonetheless, European law also influences certain tenets of the country’s legal framework. In today’s globalized business environment, the infusion of different legal aspects of law in the UAE’s legal system has created ambiguities in implementation. This issue explains why professions in this field are sensitive to ethics in procurement because of its subjective nature. Nonetheless, purchasers need to have a strong code of ethics to inform all procurement functions; otherwise, it would be easy for unscrupulous professionals to engage in unethical behaviors, such as favoritism and bribery, which may negatively affect a business’s reputation. The main advantage of pursuing this approach is to realize greater efficiencies and improved value in supply chain management.
