Depth-First Search is an algorithm that explores each path as far as possible before trying another one. On the contrary, Breadth-First Search explores a tree by breadth – all the actions from a node, and then goes on to check other nodes. Both algorithms simply examine every node until the goal is reached, and they do not use any specialized knowledge. The Depth-First Iterative Deepening method combines the two search techniques, and it is “somewhat wasteful in terms of the number of steps that are required to find a solution.” However, its pros are that it combines Depth-First’s search memory efficiency with the completeness of Breadth-First’s search, and if there is a solution, it will find a way to use the fewest arcs.
