The main agenda for the colonists was to transform the people into civilized Christians and make sure that they occupied their land and controlled natural resources. The indigenous communities resisted the colonists’ attempts to change their culture.

They refused to adopt the colonists’ culture, which angered the colonists, and clashes broke out where the indigenous people fought for their welfare through their ways and spiritual practices. Eventually, the indigenous communities could adopt diplomacy, autonomy in their tribal areas, and restoration of land that the colonists had seized from them illegally.
