Contemporary Americans are afraid of death. Death cannot be predicted, it cannot be avoided.
Americans, like all people, do not know when death will come, however, everybody knows that people cannot live forever and the day of death will come despite our desire to live more.
Death can be caused by old age, as well as it can be accidental because of somebody’s inattentive actions, or it can be planned by the third person. Americans have a death-denying culture because they try not to think about it and strive to enjoy every moment of their life. In addition, death is distasteful to Americans because nobody knows what is really happening to the human soul after the moment of death. Death, in the mind of Americans, is associated with a bad act; it is frightening. Ancient Hebrews, for example, viewed the dead body as unclean and it was not to be touched.
American Indians believed that evil spirits were around the dead person. Even the modern burial ritual is the desire to put the “bad” body below the earth, far from living people. The traditional view of death has not changed over centuries and today, as many years ago, people are afraid of death, they do not want to die and become angry when friends, relatives, or lovers die. It is impossible to remain calm when the dear person dies.
