There are several reasons why websites use cookies. Web sites attach cookies to individuals’ computer hard drives minus their consent. Simply defined, a cookie refers to a distinct identifier placed on a person’s computer by a particular web server. Cookies enable these web servers to assign a unique personal serial number to all their users. From the serial number, the web sites can retrieve all the records of their users. The process is achieved through an examination of their databases. The cookies were mainly devised for security reasons. The increase in the rates of cyber insecurity prompted the development of the cookies. There are diverse storage points for different cookies. Most cookies are stored within the hard drive of the end-users. However, during the real communication processes, the cookies exist within the memory of a user’s browser. Notably, the long and short-term cookies have varied stores.
