This commercial considers children as the target audience, as the poster represents an offer to get a plastic glass as a gift when you buy a medium soft drink. On the glass, characters of the McDonaldland are depicted, and this is the reason why the offer is so attractive for the young audience. It plays on the wish of the children to have some object as a toy; the drink will be over, leaving only a memory, while the glass will remain with them. On this particular glass, there are the “chief” of the McDonaldland, creepy clown Ronald McDonald, and one of the Dry Fies, representing french fries served at the fast-food restaurant. The picture seems to catch one of the moments of the heroes’ adventures in the fiction-land that were presented in the form of stories as a part of the restaurant’s advertisement.
The advertising campaign “McDonaldland Action Series” introduced in the 1970s, was designed as a number of collections of such glasses, each containing different depicted characters. The creators were always relevant in their choice of the collections’ themes; thus, when the epic trilogy Star Wars appeared, its characters immediately appeared on the glasses of “Action Series.” As stated in the poster, one should “ask for this week’s” Action Series in order to get one of the actual collections (McDonald’s). It was offered to collect all the pictures aiming to cause frequent visits of the children to the restaurants.
